Tips For REAL Women With REAL Curves

* Skip hiding under baggy clothes and don’t be afraid to wear fitted garments, garments that hang like a tent make you look much larger. Figure-fitting but not skin-tight is the best way to go, showing that you have real curves. Body-conscious clothes that hint at your curves, without being Too clingy or Tight, are the most flattering. Don’t go for items which fit too tightly, the idea is for clothing to hug your body so that is gives it definition and enhances your curves. Choosing items which are too tight will not look too classy. At the same time items which are too baggy should also be avoided. Show off those beautiful curves in a classy and chic manner. Unfortunately, wearing baggy clothes only makes you look bigger, and it hides the shape and figure that you do have. A baggy, long shirt will mask your waistline and make your body look much wider than it actually is. Layers of clothing will only add bulk to your appearance. Don’t be ashamed of your body – every body is beautiful. You Know My Motto ~ “Flaunt Those Curves!”

* Any color worn head to toe (monochromatic) in a clean, unbroken line will produce a dynamically slimming effect. Remember, monochromatic doesn’t have to mean boring — mix textures to keep the look interesting (i.e. knits with leather)

* Lines – horizontal lines on a garment will make you look wider; vertical lines will make you look taller and thinner.

* You have probably heard that black is slimming, and while this is basically true, you don’t want to hide behind all black clothing, all the time….add some splashes of vibrant color to your wardrobe. Bright colors can actually lift your spirits, too!

* One-piece dresses look sleeker than separates. Stretch fabrics help the fit. If you do separates, Remember the brightest or lightest color or print “pops” and accents whatever it’s on. A good way to balance out a top heavy figure, For example.. a zebra skirt with a black turtleneck.

* Proportion can play tricks on the eye. While an over-sized handbag makes a great accessory, a small handbag will make your figure appear larger. Choose a shape that flatters (ie: square shapes compliment a round figure) and make sure the strap length doesn’t land in a problem area (ie: don’t let the bottom of the purse rest on full hips).

* Elongate the neck with open necklines such as v-necks, sweetheart necklines and vertical cowl necks. A slim v-neck makes the neck appear longer and is usually very flattering.

* Boat-necks are great for minimizing waists and hips, while maximizing sexy shoulders. Caution: Avoid if you have broad shoulders!

* If your legs are fuller inside, try a side slit. If your legs are fuller outside, a mid-front or back slit is a
better choice.

* If you are petite (5’3″ or under) make sure you scale everything down : smaller prints, pockets, etc. so they don’t overpower your figure.

* Forget what you’ve heard about plus size ladies not being able to wear pretty floral prints. It’s all in the
size of the bloom (bigger prints are best) and the spacing of the flowers in the print. Wide spaced florals with lots of background color showing through look best.

* Let’s Talk Pants! 🙂 A straight or slightly boot-cut leg is the most flattering for us plus size ladies. Avoid
white or very light-colored knit pants. Skip fussy details like big cargo pockets or excessive zippers around the hip area.

* And, don’t shy away from sleeveless garments, especially evening-wear that you can cover up with a shawl, sheer top or bolero jacket.

* Lastly….My Personal & all-time Favorite Curvy Girl Fashion Tip is more of a comment than a tip, But it’s one I hope every woman carries with her in her heart every day:

Positive Self Image ~ “Nothing Looks Better on a Woman than Her Confidence and Pride.”

An Understanding of the Idea Involved

Most of what changes come to our notice through forms of products by various manufacturers but more often than not the rest is obscured. On most occasions we don’t ever get to hear how those changes or styles came or when they disappeared. One term that is relatively new and has been noticed buzzing around the fashion sector for some time now – is urban styling.

Though a lot of clothes manufacturing brands across the world have included urban clothing as a part of their accessory list, started manufacturing and sale in retailed outlets across the world, the term is still somewhat new to many people, who though interested in fashion are still unaware of the day to day developments. It is in that respect that we intend to shed some light on the subject of urban clothing and some of its related affairs too. Though we are aware of typically what eastern, western or European dressing styles are, both in the normal day to day scenario as well as in the elegant styles, urban clothing has a lot more to do than just that. It is neither restricted by type and style nor by the people who wear them and has originated from the typical dressing style that Afro- Americans follow in the United States of America.

Despite there being specific different styles and vastly varied dressing sense in the eastern or Asian fashion trends and that of the west, urban clothing has little to do about it. It is but the fashion statement that is generally followed in cities or metropolitan destinations irrespective of the geography or location around the globe. Though the beginning was marked in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, etc. It has quickly spread to all parts of the world because of its unique and signature style. One more important thing is that this style or type of clothing accommodates men, women, boys, girls, teenagers and children alike. However, the majority of the urban clothing is targeted or intended to satisfy the fashion statement of the youth.

Next we come to what lies under the domain or the entire envelope of urban clothing. Urban clothing can have casual to funky, free wear to losers or hip hop to sportswear and several other forms of clothes. Styled head wear and foot wear are also sometimes regarded into this category even though they typically don’t fall into this sector. It basically comprises of all forms of easygoing street wear that are currently available. In fact most of the world best known sports and other garment manufacturers including market giants like ‘Nike’, ‘Adidas’, ‘Puma’, and the likes, as well as casual garment brands have a separate category dedicated to urban clothing which can be easily viewed in any of their outlets.

Urban clothing in a short span of time has become extremely popular and will continue to do well is the prediction of the market experts. Since it is never stagnant, it will bring to us a whole lot of newer fashion styles altogether.

With this being said, let’s go into the different types of chic styles and clothing you may want to consider for your Christmas gifts this year.

Casual tops are by far the easiest and most popular women’s clothing Christmas gift you can consider this year. There are several reasons for this. First, casual tops are often on sale or clearance at this time of year. This doesn’t mean the tops that no one wants are on sale, it means that there is such a high turnover in the style industry that retailers are constantly having to turnover their inventory. The second reason why you may want to consider casual tops as a gift idea is because they are so incredibly versatile. There is no one way to wear them and this makes them a great gift for those on your list with their own personal styles and trends.

If you’re looking for something a bit different and more associated with the winter season, why not consider a great sweater dress? Sweaters this year are a dime a dozen; meaning they are everywhere and in every style you can think of! Because of their large presence in the women’s clothing industry you will find them often on sale or involved in a promotion which helps you save while buying the gift you want to give at the same time. If you are not familiar with sweater dresses let us give you a brief explanation. Sweater dresses can be worn as a dress on its own. Also, they can be worn with leggings underneath for warmth and style or with pencil jeans. Sweater dresses are not only winter apparel either; they are spring and fall so choosing a neutral color is a great idea.

Don’t be afraid or ashamed to shop the sales this season! Everyone wants to save money while buying that perfect present so utilize the promotions the retailers are providing. They need to get rid of inventory and you need to save money, it’s the perfect solution to Christmas spending!

Fashion Tips For Different Body Types

Dressing up is an art and for many people, finding a clothing style that is suitable for the figure that they carry is of the highest priority. Women come in all variety of shapes and sizes. The four types of common body shape include apple body shape, pear body shape, hourglass body shape and rectangle body shape. These four types of body shapes require specific fashion tips that are going to be flattering for each figure. Read more to find out the fashion tips for different body types.

For a woman who falls into the category of apple body shape, she needs to wear clothing that are going to take away the emphasis on her waist and reduce the appearance of her broad shoulders. She can also draw the attention to her legs by wearing tunic style short skirts. Camouflage the extra pounds around the tummy by wearing raised waist, dresses and empire tops. To create an illusion of smaller waist, she can put on wrap tops, nipped waist jackets or cinched waists.

A woman who carries a pear or triangle shape figure on the other hand can pull the focus to her top half. To create a more balanced top and lower body, choose wider necklines type of clothing paired with darker bottoms. An illusion of leaner looking legs can be achieved by wearing boot cut jeans. An A-line or asymmetric skirt is suitable as it skims around the hip rather than focusing the whole attention on them. A jacket that falls just above the hip is preferable to longer ones.

For hourglass body shapes, ladies can choose a clothing type that will draw the focus to their narrow waist and show off their classic curves. To let the curves be the central focus, wear waist-defining clothing like cinched waists or wrap dresses with high-waisted pants or skirts. To create a leaner and longer appearance, choose monochromatic colored v-necks that will draw the eye vertically.

Rectangular or straight body shape types have slender bodies. To add more curves choose jackets with defined waists, scoop neck or v-neck. Wear low rise straight or flared jeans that fade at the thigh area to create an added curve at the hips and legs. To add dimension to the whole figure, try on layered looks. Wear clothing that has prints, patterns, and tailored design to break up the straight figure appearance.

Avoid Plus Size Fitting Room Frustrations

Clothes shopping at any stage of the shape shifting/size changing game should be an enjoyable time for every woman. It’s an opportunity to clear your head, give yourself some space and time away from work or the fam and enjoy seeing yourself from a fresh and fabulous perspective. It’s like playing an adult version of ‘the children’s game, “Dress up’. It should be tons of fun. But you can’t immerse yourself in the joy of the experience, if you’re not in the right frame of mind. Before you head out the door, you’ve got to first have the right attitude.

If your goal is to feel better about your body, boost your confidence, channel your inner sassy, and momentarily step away from your body hating ways, then you’ve got to treat yourself to a self image makeover, That means being willing to see yourself from a different perspective.

Wiping the Slate Clean: Start Where You Are

Many women regardless of size, struggle with body issues. For years no matter how fat or thin I was, I couldn’t stand my thighs. I truly believed that I was miserable because I had fat thighs. One day I looked at myself, standing naked in the mirror and for the first time ever I realized that I had it all wrong. My thighs were the result of being miserable, not the cause. That’s when I began to become more compassionate toward myself and my body. One of the tools that I used to change the way that I felt about myself and my thighs was to read the book, “Heal Your Body” by Louise Hay. The mirror exercise I’ve described is one of the tools from her book.

Setting the Record Straight

As a professional coach, I’ve learned that people treat us the way we treat ourselves. If you’re used to putting yourself down and trash talking your body in front of others, they will inadvertently pick up the habit and eventually get used to talking to you in a similar way. The best way to correct them without putting undue stress on your relationship is to let everyone in your family know that any criticism or comments about your body is off limits and will no longer be tolerated. By making it clear to the people around you, that you respect yourself, they will be more appreciative and respectful of you.

As a sales associate for the women’s retail plus size clothing store chain, Avenue, I see a lot of things that my customers do that often create tremendous fitting room frustrations (FRF) for themselves and others. Find out if you’re making these same mistakes and learn what you can do to make your next shopping trip fun.

FRF #1 – Expecting the worst. Lots of larger women dread the prospect of clothes shopping because they’ve had many negative experiences in the past. It doesn’t have to be that way.

What to do instead: As world famous success coach, Tony Robbins says, “your past does not necessarily determine your present.” You can change the way you feel by making the choice to do things differently. Plan to have fun. – Rather than going with the worst case scenario movie rolling ’round in your head, set an intention to have a great time and plan on enjoying a fabulous shopping experience. This is your time to explore your beauty and get the most bang for your buck.

FRF #2 – Body Dysmorphia – “The I’m fat and ugly syndrome” – According to statistics, in the U.S, 4 out of 5 women strongly dislike or even hate their bodies. If you feel that way, you’ve probably got a lot of negative feelings toward your body. Harboring these emotions, prevents you from being able to see yourself as you really are.

What to do instead: Do your homework. Realize that as a plus size woman, you’re not alone. In the U.S., 62% of women are plus sized. According to the modelling/fashion world, plus size is now considered any size larger than a straight size 6. No matter what size you are, stand proud. Spend some time on the internet or watching TV to look for plus size women role models who embrace their bodies. Keep your eyes peeled each day for gals with similar body types to yours. Their style of dress can inspire and inform you.

Watch empowering body lovin’ TV: The cable TV show, “How to Look Good Naked” hosted by Carson Kressley is a fabulous tool that you can use to change the way that you think and feel about your body. I like to call it a 60 minute self image makeover.

Using a combination of tools that help the women to see themselves in a more realistic light, the show is a powerful inspiration that can empower any woman to be more accepting and loving of her body. Whenever I can, I watch the show or I visit the site because it has so much to offer. It is an incredibly healing experience to see women just like you, who move from hating their bodies to loving them, exactly as they are. No surgery or dieting necessary.

You can view previous episodes of HTLGN online through iTunes, and you can also peruse the site and pick up a ton of useful information on what types of clothing silhouettes will flatter your particular figure. Another of my favorite sources for plus size fashion and information is Plus Model Magazine. PMM is an online fashion magazine for the plus size community.

FRF #2 – Spreading yourself too thin. Many women come into the store, either with kids or griping husband in tow, feeling the pressure to multi-task, and the need to please. By demonstrating to your family that you’re okay with squeezing your needs in to fit their schedule, you are making the statement that you’re not really worth the time or trouble to take care of yourself. This almost always guarantees a miserable shopping experience for you, creates feelings of resentment towards hubby and/or the kids and gets you a one way pass for an “I’ll show them. This’ll Make Me Feel Better binge” that’s waiting for you just ’round the corner.

What to do instead: Take the time to plan out and schedule a trip for yourself or you and a friend on a day when you have some time. If you do bring someone along for the ride, make sure they are supportive and helpful. No whiners or meanies allowed.

Consider this some special high quality “me time” and if need be, hire a babysitter or arrange to do a kid watching exchange with someone you trust. Unless you know exactly what you want to purchase and don’t need to use the fitting room, leave the little ones and other poor shoppers at home. It’s too trying for you to try on clothes while also attempting to keep the peace.

FRF#3 – Being stuck in a box – A few days ago a woman came into the store and she asked me to help her find a nice sweater or jacket. She told me that she wanted to hide her hips and get something that gave her a lot of coverage. I looked at her and laughed gently as I teasingly asked her, “What are you hiding from? She told me that she couldn’t possibly bear to show her behind and feel comfortable without having her thighs fully covered by plenty of fabric. I explained to her that it’s a common misconception to believe that wearing baggy clothes hides our figure flaws. If anything it emphasizes them.

Noticing that she had a pretty curvy pear-shaped figure, with full hips and larger thighs, I suggested that she try on a soft boucle tweed knit sweater cinched with a leather tie belt. I explained to her that in order to show off her curves, she would want to choose items that had a belt because that would work to visually draw the eye down, emphasizing her smaller waist. I also told her that with her lovely auburn hair, I recommended that she choose the blue and green sweater, rather than the black and white. When she tried it on, she looked fabulous, so curvy, vibrant, filled with life and so pretty. But she was so upset seeing more of her curvy body than she was used to, that in the end she decided not to buy the sweater. Sadly she refused to step out of her comfort zone of hiding behind black and dull shapeless clothing. How ’bout you? Can you relate to her dilemma?

What to do instead: Pearls of wisdom – In many plus size stores, the sales associates are often plus size women themselves. They understand what it’s like to struggle with excess weight and because they ‘get it’, they’re eager to give you the benefit of their personal experience combined with their fashion expertise. Once you find a sales associate you like enough to trust, be willing to listen to their suggestions and be open to seeing yourself from their eyes.

Ask for help. Rather than hunting around in a big store, feeling frustrated, alone and uncertain, get some help. By doing this, you’ll see more possibilities and feel less pinched. If you need something in another size, color or style, ask for help. If you want assistance to put an outfit together, tell someone what you’re after. The sales associates in the store are there to make your shopping trip a wonderful experience.

With a little planning, and some time on your hands, you can enjoy a great shopping trip. Remember this is fun time for you. Put on some makeup. Slip into some comfy shoes. Scope out some local plus size stores, get ready to try on lots of different clothes, be fearless with color, play with accessories and have some fun.

Fashion Tips for Men

Being a male is tough enough, we have to provide for ourselves and our families, we are supposed to know how to fix almost anything when it is broken, we are required to be sensitive and most importantly we are supposed to always look good. The hardest part about being a male is the fact that we are required to know everything, do everything and be everything to everyone. Don’t you find this hard to live up to such standards?

When it comes to fashion men just need to follow these 4 tips. The best part about following these 4 tips is that you will be able to look fashionable with ease.

Fashion tips for men

Dress up – The first way a man can be fashionable is if he dresses up. It doesn’t matter if you are going to church, a wedding or even shopping with the guys, you should always look good and dressing up is a great way to make you look important while standing out in a non threatening way.

Dark jeans – The nice thing about wearing dark jeans is that they look similar to slacks and just like I said above dressing up will show power in a non threatening way. Something I always like to do when I wear dark jeans is accompany them with a light shirt, black or white shoes, and a bold watch. The reason I put all these together is because it will make your face, watch, and your bottom stand out.

Lightweight jacket – The nice thing about wearing a lightweight jacket is that you can easily add that when you dress up or when you wear dark jeans. The thing I love about a lightweight jacket is that you can wear them when it is hot or cold outside and it won’t affect you that much.

Clean shoes – If you want to be fashionable then you need to always wear clean shoes. They don’t need to just be clean on the bottom and inside but on the sides as well. A great rule of thumb is to have 5 different pairs of shoes and never wear the same one back to back. You always need to give time to clean the shoes if need be and let them air out.

15 Minute Fashion Guide

When the alarm goes off in the morning, women are lucky if we can find our way to the coffee pot without injury. The only decision most women can make pre-sunrise is whether we want one spoon full of sugar or two in our coffee. Ever since grade school some women are taught to pick out our outfit the night before. Going to bed with piece of mind that we don’t have to make any outfit threatening decisions the next morning. But we still don’t have hours to spend making a reasonable fashion choice in attire for the following day.

Start with one article of clothing that you sure you want to be seen in the following day. Have it be a new pair of shoes, pants that finally fit again or a really pretty bracelet that has inspired you for some reason. Starting preparation on your outfit around this #1 piece this can help narrow your choices and speed things up.

Unless your #1 piece is a top or dress always start from the bottom, upwards. Select which style bottom you choice for the day a skirt, capri’s or maybe pants. Next is the color, if your shoes are black you obviously aren’t planning on wearing khaki. Try and spice things up though, pin stripe is always a great alternative.

Next is a blouse let’s presume the outfit so far; black heels and pin stripe capri’s. Good clean and simple, try and brighten things up now. Remember you are going to work so keep it professional. A solid color tank and matching cardigan is always pleasing. Try a lilac, soft pink or pale blue matching set. If you’re more daring, an intense red is always sophisticated & classic.

This should be the fun part now, accessories! Accessories are a great example of your personal style and taste. Feel free to mix and match, always wear something that makes you smile and is fun. Matching is always safe, silver or gold watch- stud earrings, a simple necklace and maybe 1 or 2 rings. If you don’t lean towards the safe side try a set of bold bangle bracelets. Be sure that they don’t make a lot of noise for that can be distracting at work. Earrings try a hoop or something with your fashion forward, maybe a colorful cluster of gemstones or a more playful design. Rings are a great expression too; try something that will have you smiling every time you look down at it.

Having your outfit laid out ahead of time relives plenty of unnecessary stress in the morning hours. A put together look during the work day will help you in feeling better through out you’re already stressful day. Always plan a simple back up outfit just in case of a last minute spill or new found rip. An effortless dress is stable back up plan – just in case. A look already put together will give you more time in the morning for important things – like breakfast!

Embrace Fashion With Online Fashion Games

Whether your child is a natural pink loving princess or a punk loving tomboy, there are many things to love about video games for young girls. Hip, challenging, and fun, these games allow your child to experiment with everything from fashion combinations to different hairstyles and makeup. Here are a few ways having a few fashion games on hand can benefit you and your child.

The best thing about online games is that they allow your child to learn and explore, all while rewarding them with fun animations, silly music, and a steadily climbing points system. Whether your child prefers to create her own wedding dress, design an outfit suitable for a queen, or she simply wants the exhilaration of running her own fashion show, there are thousands of games for young girls to choose from.

Along with allowing her to try different clothing combinations, color combinations, and more, you are doing more than just indulging her fashion whims. You are letting her learn more about what she likes in her own clothing. The same goes with games that center on hairstyles and makeup as well. In letting her play these games, she can learn which styles and makeup combinations she likes best.

The points system is important too. While some games provide simple scores, there are many-particularly those that are centered around combining outfits-that reward the player in the form of money. Along with teaching her the pleasure of shopping, this also teaches her the importance of saving up money or spending it wisely. While this may seem like a small thing to you, it is encouraging healthy budgeting concepts for her.

Best of all, there are plenty of fashion games out there that star popular characters, such as Barbie or Bratz dolls. This allows her a bit more flexibility when it comes to dressing them up. While playing with real dolls can be rewarding in its own way, online games provide you with a lot more in regards to clothes, hairstyles, and makeup than you would have with just the dolls alone.

When it comes to video games for young girls, it may seem impossible to find the right one for her. However, with fashion games, you can’t go wrong. Creative, fun, and unlike anything she’s seen before, these games will swiftly become your daughters’ favorites. If you’re interested in sparking your daughter’s interest, boosting her creativity, or simply giving her something fun and educational to do during her free time, these games are a great way to accomplish all of those things and more.
